Sited on a rock 4 miles off Cape Clear, this lighthouse was built between 1899 and 1903. Made of Cornish stone, it replaced the original built in 1854. Fastnet is the tallest and widest rock lighthouse tower in Ireland and Great Britain and was a monumental achievement when completed in 1904. Called 'the Teardrop' by emigrants heading west to America, it features an annual yacht race. The lighthouse was automated in March 1989. © John Eagle Photography
